Mr Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, the Minister for Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development (MLGDRD), has urged the District Assemblies in the Western and Central Regions to reinforce their supervisory roles, ensuring that all projects in the region meet the highest standards of durability and efficiency.

He said the urgency and quality of the work being done today would define the future of Ghana’s secondary cities, ensuring that they become vibrant and sustainable centres of development.

The Minister was speaking during a two-day inspection tour on key infrastructure project sites across the Western and Central Regions under the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Programme (GSCSP).

The Minister visited several Municipal and District Assemblies, including Ahanta West, Effia Kwesimintsim, Mfantseman, Assin Fosu, Agona West, and Awutu Senya East, scrutinising the progress of roads, drains, markets, lockable stores, lorry parks, and terminals, with all at various stages of completion.

Mr Korsah said the quality of these projects would determine their sustainability and value to the communities hence the need to uphold the highest standards.

He said the GSCSP was more than just an infrastructure initiative but a vital component of Ghana’s strategy to build resilient, self-sustaining secondary cities capable of driving regional development.

“By providing District Assemblies with the necessary funding and capacity-building resources, the programme aims to enhance service delivery and foster local economic growth,” he added.

He said the successful completion of these projects was non-negotiable.

Mr Korsah said there was no room for complacency, and that the stakes were too high, and the timeline too critical for anything less than excellence.

“There will be no room for delays or requests for contract extensions, we will not entertain any requests for extension in contract duration.”

“These projects are essential to our nation’s development, and any delays undermine our goals for economic growth and community wellbeing,” he stressed.

Mr Korsah called for a heightened focus on quality.

The Minister was unreserved in his praise where progress aligned with set timelines, commending the Assemblies for their dedication to these projects.
