The Methodist Church of Ghana has distanced itself from the recent comments attributed to one of its past Bishops.

According to the church, the purported comments are that of Rt. Rev. Stephen Bosomtwe Ayensu, a past Bishop of the Obuasi Diocese of the church.

The said statement which was made during the 25th Annual Synod of the Obuasi Diocese sought to attack the position of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, the former President of Ghana on the E-Levy.

Per media reports the senior man of God is said to have stated that the NDCs John Mahama will not even be President let alone to talk of repealing the E-Levy bill

But the church in a statement issued by the Public Relations Directorate said it continues to be politically neutral.

“The Methodist Church continues to be politically unaligned to any political party. While Ministers and members of the church may make comments on their individual basis as fellow citizens of Ghana that cannot be taken as the official position of the church” the statement read.

It further stated that the Presiding Bishop is the official Spokesperson of the Church.

The statement however, appealed to the Media not to draw the name of The Methodist Church Ghana into the alleged statements made by the past Bishop and currently the Superintendent Minister of the Amakom Circuit of the Kumasi Diocese.
