MIGHTY WEAPONS IN GOD

Scripture Reading:

(2 Corinthians 10:1-6) For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.

(2 Corinthians 10:4-5) God has given us weapons to pull down strongholds. In ancient times, cities were fortified.

The first fortifications were massive walls built around the cities. Additionally, protective towers were placed at regular intervals along the wall to give the city’s defending archers a good vantage point for turning back any attacks.

For even greater security, massive gates, often reinforced with metal, protected the entrances to these cities.

The walls, towers and gates made up the stronghold of a city. To capture a city and win a war, it was necessary to destroy the stronghold of that city.

Similarly, in our spiritual warfare, there are strongholds for us to pull down. In our Christian warfare, these are the forces that we engage in battle.

1. Arguments of those who reject God

2. Ideas that are contrary to God’s knowledge_

3. Thoughts that rebel against the Lordship of Christ.

A stronghold is a position or belief which people strongly defend. They are the things the enemy erects to hinder the access and flow of God’s power in our lives. To combat these strongholds, God had given us formidable weapons to fight with.

The weapons that the Lord has given us are not physical but have power to bring down all the fortresses of evil around us.

We have the word of God, as the sword of the spirit. to enable us attack, and the shield of faith for defending.

We have the blood of Jesus and our testimony as weapons to win every battle.

We have the abiding presence of the Holy Spirit to stop every flood of attack that the enemy unleashes against us.

These and others you will discover, as you study the scriptures, are the mighty weapons given us by God to prevail in the conflicts brought on us by the enemy.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, by faith I come against every force of evil operating where I am. I pull it down and cast it out. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
