The Minority Caucus in Parliament has declared its preparedness for the resumption of the House on Tuesday, May 26 with a firm resolve to serve as a responsible opposition while holding the Majority accountable.
At a strategic meeting held over the weekend, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin said the caucus had met to align their priorities and map out a clear plan to be more effective during the second meeting of Parliament.
“This morning, we met as a caucus to strategize for the second meeting of Parliament. It’s a meeting of committee leaders to plan how to be effective and ensure that the right things are done in our country,” Afenyo-Markin stated.
He emphasized that the Minority remains committed to deepening democratic governance and will not hesitate to hold the ruling government accountable.
“We want the good of democracy, and we are sending a strong message to our opponents that we will hold their feet to the fire,” he stressed.
Despite the tough stance, the Minority Leader noted that his side is determined to operate as a responsible opposition, one that is focused on the long-term goal of securing power in the next general elections.
“At the same time, we are going to be a responsible opposition and assure Ghana that we are ready to take the reins of government in 2028 to make Ghana better,” he added.
The Minority, he said, is more than ready to execute its new strategy on the resumption of the House to influence the legislative agenda to reflect its priorities.
