The Minority Leader in Parliament has reaffirmed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) caucus will continue to boycott parliamentary proceedings and may even escalate the boycott next week.

The NDC MPs, he said, remain committed to their decision to boycott the work of parliament on trial days of the Gyakye Quayson criminal case.

In response to appeals by some NPP MPs asking the Minority to reconsider their decision, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, made it clear that the NDC MPs would not back down.

The boycott is a response to the ongoing trial of MP Gyakye Quayson, who is facing legal challenges regarding his parliamentary eligibility due to allegations of dual citizenship.

The Supreme Court annulled his 2020 parliamentary victory last month, leading to a by-election in which he won by a larger margin.

Dr Ato Forson emphasized that the boycott was not intended as disrespect for the parliamentary system but rather as a powerful statement against what they perceived as a breach of the constitution.

They believe they have a duty to protect the integrity of the legislative body and the sanctity of democracy.

The boycott has significantly impacted parliamentary proceedings, with the House unable to transact any meaningful business.

In response to the boycott, the Member of Parliament for Okaikoi Central, Patrick Yaw Boamah, made an appeal to the Minority to reconsider their decision, noting that their absence from the chamber has negatively impacted the business of the House.
