The planned protest by the Minority in Parliament to occupy the premises of the Bank of Ghana (BoG) and demand the resignation of the governor and his deputies has been postponed once again.
The protest is now scheduled for October 3, 2023, to allow for the Limited Voter Registration Exercise which is set to begin on September 12, 2023.
According to a statement signed by NDC National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the change in date was necessary due to the commencement of the Limited Registration Exercise on the same day as the original Occupy BoG protest date.
The statement also urged eligible voters to take advantage of the opportunity to register and join in the demonstration against the corruption within the management of the central bank after the exercise.
“We want to assure the general public that absolutely nothing will stand in our way on the rescheduled date as we stand ready and willing to protest vigorously against the crass leadership offered by President Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party which has affected every facet of our national life and is manifested particularly by the nation-wrecking activities of the top management of the Bank of Ghana,” the statement said.
Earlier, a meeting between the Minority leadership and the police ended inconclusively, with the MPs accusing the police of deliberately obstructing their planned protest against the Governor of the Bank of Ghana and his deputies.
