In a bid to foster camaraderie and promote a healthy lifestyle, media practitioners in the Ashanti Region, led by the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) in the region, joined forces with MTN Ghana, a leading telecommunication giant, for a first-of-its-kind health walk through the bustling streets of Kumasi.
On Saturday, December 23, 2023, more than 100 participants took to the streets of Kumasi, embarking on a refreshing four-hour journey to unwind after a year of dedicated work.
The health walk, initiated by GJA and generously sponsored by MTN Ghana, aimed to strengthen the bond between the media and the telecommunications network.
The lively procession commenced at the Nhyiaeso Office of MTN, accompanied by brass band music, traversing key locations such as Ahodwo Roundabout, Asokwa Interchange, Kumasi Mall, Dadiesoaba, Ahmadiyya SHS, KMA, and concluding at Lancaster Street.
The participants later gathered at the MTN headquarters for invigorating aerobics and penalty shootouts.
Mr. Kingsley E. Hope, Ashanti Regional Chairman of GJA and regional editor for the Ghanaian Times newspaper, thanked media colleagues and partners for their enthusiastic participation.
He extended special appreciation to MTN Ghana for sponsoring the inaugural health walk and encouraged the telecommunications company to consider making it an annual tradition.
Mr. Simon Amoh, the Northern Business Sector acting Commercial Manager of MTN Ghana, emphasized the importance of regular exercise for all Ghanaians to alleviate stress, especially considering the demanding nature of journalists’ work.
He underscored MTN Ghana’s commitment to supporting the well-being of media practitioners through initiatives like the health walk.
The event also featured officials from the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) and military officers guiding participants through invigorating drills. Sponsored by MTN Ghana, participants were treated to a feast, with an abundance of jollof, fried rice, waakye, and kenkey.
