The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly says the removal of crash barriers by scrap dealers on major highways in the Municipality poses a serious risk to motorists and other road users.
According to Honourable Boye Laryea, these barriers are pivotal in preventing fatal accidents and protecting the lives of pedestrians.
Briefing journalists during an inspection tour of ongoing projects in the Municipality, the Okaikwei North MCE assured to deal with the perpetrators of the crime.
“It is lawlessness, and shouldn’t be tolerated,” he stated, urging immediate action by the Ghana Police Service to reverse the trend.
The MCE indicated that the inspected projects, including drainage and road infrastructure, are key to the government’s development agenda drive in the municipality.
Honourable Laryea however, decried incidents of the opposition National Democratic Congress’ markings on government properties.
“Painting Assembly projects with NDC colours wouldn’t win you the elections. Such actions are unlawful and unwarranted. If you claim you’ve delivered to the people, why paint roads, electricity poles and bridges with party colours?” he wondered.
“Let us avoid lawless activities in the municipality. I urge everyone to embrace peace and maintain order. Besides, it is imperative for us all to uphold public safety, and preserve government assets,” he said.
“Let us, as a municipality, look towards collaborative efforts underpinned by effective governance and law enforcement…”
Earlier, Opuni Amoah, site engineer of Jasoung Construction Limited, overseeing a drainage project at Achimota said the project was facing challenges of encroachment.
He applauded Honourable Laryea for facilitating the project’s progress, and stressed his commitment to completing the project on schedule.
