Construction has commenced on a 0.75- kilometre road at Obuasi in the Obuasi Municipality following a sod-cutting ceremony by the Member of Parliament (MP), Mr. Kwaku Agyemang Kwarteng.

The Nana Ponko Road, a critical road in the Obuasi West Constituency, had been in a deplorable state for a long time, leaving drivers and residents outraged about the road’s condition.

Commercial drivers have refused to ply that route and those who use it charge exorbitant fares hence the construction of the road is expected to bring some relief to residents in the area.

When completed, the road would serve as another easy route to the yet to be completed Accident and Trauma Hospital at Bidiem.

Thilex Construction Limited is executing the project which is scheduled to be completed in six months.

Mr. Kwarteng, at a ceremony to cut sod for the project and introduce the contractor to the community, affirmed his commitment to the constituency’s development, saying his tenure as MP had seen more roads in Obuasi upgrade.

He spoke about the upgrading of Obuasi internal roads, especially the Central Business District roads, and the Mactina-Court Junction Road, adding that, the Kunka portion of the Obuasi – Anwiankwanta road would soon be completed.

The Obuasi West MP called for support for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government and said if given another mandate it would continue to work to improve the lives of Ghanaians.

Mr. Fred Ghansah, the Site Engineer of Thilex Construction Limited, assured the people that they would work within schedule and that all the materials needed for the work were already on site.

Nana Osei Mintah, the Krontihene of Kunka, commended the MP for the decision to fix the road.

“As traditional leaders, we have been left helpless anytime our people complain about the poor nature of the road.

We are extremely happy that at long last, this road will receive the needed upgrading that we are all looking for,” the Chief said.

He assured the contractor of the community’s total support throughout the construction phase of the project.
