My great party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the weekend had its Presidential primaries. Four party stalwarts contested for the vacant position. These were Ken Ohene Agyapong, the sitting Member of Parliament for Assin Central, who garnered 71,996 of the delegates votes, which represented 37.41%, Former Food and Agriculture and a son to Baffour Akoto, Dr. Owusu Afriyie. He once represented the people of Kwadaso in the Ashanti Region. He polled 1,449 votes, which represented, 0.75%.

Hon Francis Addai Nimo, former Member of Parliament for Mampong, had a paltry 781, representing 0.41%.

Dr Mahamoudou Bawumia, the sitting vice president of the Republic. He won the contest by garnering 118,210 votes representing 61.47,%.

Times have changed as he has the mantle to choose who will pair with him to break the 8-year Presidential jinx.

For the past years, he was considered by the current President, Nana Addo as his running mate on 4 solid occasions.

Now as a flag bearer, I pray that he chooses Hon Joseph Osei Owusu to partner with him to retain the power for the party. This gentleman has all that it takes to assist our elected flag bearer to do the needful not only for the party but the nation as a whole.

He is currently the first Deputy Speaker of Parliament and he represents the good people of Bekwai in the Ashanti Region. He is a senior lawyer and a member of the bar. He has about 30 years of experience as a lawyer.

He is industrious, humble, committed, and dedicated to his jobs as a Member of Parliament and as a lawyer. He is a rare gentleman. He has the temperament and all the other qualities of a leader.

He is also loyal to the development of the country, his people, and the party.

He is not a noise maker but he is a very strategic and serious person. His performance in the House as a former chairman of Constitutional, Legal, and Parliamentary Affairs was excellent. He is also a long-standing member of the Pan-African Parliament and the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament for two terms.

I pray that our candidate, Dr Mahamoudou Bawumia will choose Hon J Osei Owusu as his running mate.

I support lawyer Joe Wise as the best candidate to partner Dr M Bawumia for our victory come December 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
