The initiative, which was part of this year’s constitution week celebration, was aimed to promote constitutional awareness and civic engagement among citizens in various societies.

Madam Emmanuella Woelikplim Apetorgbor, the Assistant Civil Education Officer (ACEO) at Anloga, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said that it was importance to create awareness about the constitution to promote a culture of citizenship and civic responsibility among communities.

“By educating citizens about the constitution, we hope to empower them to participate fully in the democratic process,” she said.

She said that the NCCE has launched a public education campaign to sensitise citizens about the significance of constitution week which includes outreach programmes, workshops, and seminars to educate the public about the constitution’s provisions and their implications.

Madam Apetorgbor explained that other objective of NCCE’s education campaign was to engage citizens in discussions about the constitution and its role in shaping the country’s development to foster a deeper understanding to promote a sense of ownership and responsibility among all.

“The celebration of Constitution Week provides an opportunity to promote civic engagement, encourage and inspire citizens to participate in the democratic process and take an active role in shaping the country’s future.”

She said that the NCCE commenced the community engagements on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at Dzita, Agbledomi-Anyigbatsite, and group of people such as Ghana National Tailors and Dressmakers’ Association (GNTDA) at Anloga and would continue in various basic and secondary schools in subsequent weeks.

She said civil education would provide citizens with the necessary information about the constitution’s provisions and principles that would empower the public to make informed decisions and hold their leaders accountable.

She said that the engagement would also provide a platform for discussing the progress made in implementing constitutional provision and identifying areas for improvement as well as reflect on significance of constitution and its impacts on their lives.

Madam Apetorgbor said the NCCE looked forward to a future where the constitution continues to guide the development of the country and urged all to work together to ensure that the constitution remain a living document that promote justice, equity and prosperity for all.
