Sports Ministry directs NSA to apply strict maintenance schedules of national stadia

The Ministry of Youth and Sports has directed the National Sports Authority (NSA) to strictly adhere and apply the maintenance schedule of national stadia to ensure they meet international standards.

Ghana was handed massive respite when the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) approved the Accra Sports Stadium to host Ghana’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Sudan.

A statement released by the Public Relations Unit of the Youth and Sports Ministry welcomed CAF’s approval of the Accra Sports Stadium while urging the NSA to apply a strict maintenance schedules.

“While welcoming CAF’s decision, the Ministry wishes to reiterate its commitment to ensure sports infrastructure and facilities at our national stadia meet the highest standards for international sporting infrastructure.

“In line with this, the Ministry has directed the NSA to henceforth apply strict maintenance of our national stadiums and other facilities,” the statement said.

It added that issues that were raised by CAF regarding the suitability of the Baba Yara and Cape Coast Stadia were being resolved.

“We look forward to another CAF inspection soon for the restoration of the status of these national stadiums as approved venues for CAF and FIFA matches,” the statement said.

The Sports Ministry also expressed gratitude to all stakeholders who contributed in securing CAF’s approval for the Accra Sports Stadium while urging further collaboration in the development and maintenance of other sporting facilities nationwide.
