The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Kwetey, has reaffirmed the party’s stance on supporting the poor while emphasizing that they do not harbour animosity towards the rich.
He emphasized the party’s dedication to making every possible effort to lift the people of Ghana, including NDC members, out of poverty.
The NDC, he said, believes the true purpose of wealth lies in its ability to foster genuine social justice and a sense of solidarity within society unlike those who view wealth solely as the accumulation of possessions.
Fifi Kwetey stated these when he addressed youth leaders of the NDC at the Youth Wing Retreat in Accra on the theme: “Building the Ghana we want, the role of the youth.”
He expressed concern over a growing trend among some young people, wherein they prioritize convenience and the pursuit of wealth without regard for principles or conviction.
He urged the youth to resist this mindset, highlighting the importance of character and values in both personal and political life.
Noting Ghana’s aspirations to become a beacon of hope for other nations, the General Secretary acknowledged that there is nothing inherently wrong with aspiring to wealth. However, he cautioned against blindly pursuing wealth at any cost, especially when it comes at the expense of the people’s welfare.
“We seek a nation where wealth is generated by citizens who place high value on character,” he stated.
Fifi Kwetey reminded the youth that the NDC represents the political hope of the country and called on them to set positive examples, recognizing that their actions and convictions would be instrumental in convincing others that the NDC is indeed Ghana’s hope for a better future.
He emphasized that political leadership sustained by strong character and values would lead to long-term success and a positive impact on Ghana’s society.
He highlighted the NDC’s dedication to uplifting the poor and prioritizing principles over the blind pursuit of wealth, which underscores its commitment to creating a fair and just society for all Ghanaians.
