The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is in a state of mourning following the sad demise of Dr. Sherry Hanni Ayittey on Saturday, July 22, 2023.
Dr. Ayittey served as the Vice Chairperson of the NDC and held the position of a former Minister. She was also widely recognized as a stalwart of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) and the 31st December Women’s Movement.
NDC National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, in an official statement released by the party, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of their esteemed Vice Chairperson. The nation, they said, had lost an elder whose contributions to nation-building had been substantial and remarkable.
“The death of the hardworking and selfless Hon. Dr. Sherry Ayittey has robbed the party, the country, and her family of a venerable leader whose sterling contributions to nation-building span well over a generation in the history of Ghana,” Mr. Nketiah stated.
The NDC further conveyed their devastation at this sudden and unexpected blow, vowing to demonstrate their gratitude to Dr. Ayittey for her unwavering love for the nation and the party.
“We console ourselves and her family and request strength and fortitude for her loved ones and friends as preparations are made towards her funeral. Auntie Sherry, rest in peace,” Mr. Nketiah added.
