Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has disclosed President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will in the coming days launch the newly digitized records of the Lands Commission.

According to him, records at the Commission have been digitized, rationalized and synchronized to contain information from the various departments in such a way as to produce one search result.

The new system, he said, is 80% to 90% complete and will provide a one-stop-shop on land title registry to facilitate search on title deeds.

“In the past, you conduct a search at the lands title registry and you will get a set of results; you go to the Lands Commission and you get another set of results, which has become fodder for litigation and rancour.”

“However, a lot of work has been done and we have changed the system for conducting searches meaning to conduct a search today at the Lands Commission will lead to a one-stop result,” he stated.

Mr. Abu Jinapor who disclosed this in an interview with the Ghanaian Publisher recently indicated that the change will see a massive revamp of the infrastructure of the Commission both soft and hardware.

The changes, he said, will also see motivation of staff and the general work ethics atmosphere in which the Lands Commission conducts its business improved.

According to the Minister, these form part of the critical actions the government is taking to reform land administration in the country.

He pointed out that the land sector has been bedevilled with numerous problems arising out of years of actions and inactions and the entire land tenure system, its history, genesis and foundation.

The country, he said, has been equipped with a land administration that is not fit for purpose hence the efforts of the NPP government to restructure the whole system in a manner that will be fit for purpose.

“The way to achieve that is to digitize the Lands Commission, reform the work culture, revamp infrastructure both hard and software and work to change the work ethics of the Lands Commission itself,” he said.

Mr. Jinapor stated that a lot of progress has been made in that direction and soon the President will launch the new system for the Ghanaian public to benefit from the ease of land matters.
