Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, the current Member of Parliament, has decided not to contest in the upcoming primary for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Odododiodio parliamentary race.

The primary is scheduled for October 31, 2023, and three aspirants have already thrown their hat in the ring.

Nii Adjebu Lamptey, the Chairman of the NDC Election Committee in the Odododiodio Constituency, has firmly urged party sympathizers to maintain a respectful and professional tone during the campaign period.

“NDC members and supporters, what we are doing now is internal competition, and we pray that all of them will comport themselves so that we can have a peaceful election. The filing of nominations has been very peaceful, and we expect that it will continue like that. On Friday there will be vetting at the regional party office, and on October 31, the elections will come on as planned.”

Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, born on June 11, 1965, is a formidable politician who not only served as a Sports Minister but is also the current Member of Parliament representing the Odododiodoo constituency.

He emerged victorious in the 2012 elections against Victor Okaikoi of the New Patriotic Party, demonstrating his sheer political prowess.

His career in sports started in 1990 at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, where he quickly rose to become the Deputy Head of Sports.

Thereafter, he became the Head of Sports at Network Broadcasting Limited between 2005 and 2008.

Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye is an alumnus of Bechem Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School and Mfantsipim School, Cape Coast.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, Philosophy, and Classics from the University of Ghana, and a master’s degree in Governance & Leadership from GIMPA.

He is a highly accomplished individual who has made significant contributions to Ghana’s sports and political landscape.
