The National Liberation Congress (NLC) and the Ghana Alternative Party (GAP) have announced their withdrawal from the upcoming December 7th elections.

The decision was made during an emergency meeting held on September 11th, chaired by Osahene Nana Agyei Boateng, the leader and founder of GAP.

The alliance between NLC and GAP had initially planned to field Stephen Atubiga as an independent candidate.

However, due to the NLC’s final certification not being ready from the Electoral Commission (EC) and the lack of time to register a new alliance logo, the parties decided to withdraw from the race.

The decision was influenced by several factors, including feedback from voters who expressed that voting for an independent candidate would be a waste of votes, given the strong competition between the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Additionally, the current economic situation has led many to believe that only the major parties have the capacity to govern effectively.

The alliance also noted that a unified third force comprising all independent candidates and smaller parties might have garnered more support.

However, the fragmented nature of the independent candidates and smaller parties led to scepticism among voters.

Despite withdrawing from the election, the NLC and GAP alliance remains committed to their vision and manifesto. They plan to support any party that adopts their vision in the interest of the country.
