NO OPPONENT CAN DEFEAT YOU

Scripture Reading: Joshua 1

No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you. Joshua 1:5

What a promise! Joshua was aware of the might of the cities in the Promised Land. He had visited the land almost forty years earlier and seen their mighty stature and walled cities. At that time, Joshua was convinced that they could conquer the Canaanite cities with the Lord on their side. Now, forty years later, the Lord assures Joshua of victory against every opponent he would face.

The land that God promised to Abraham had been occupied and built on. The people who inhabited the land were huge in stature. They towered high above the Israelites and seemed unconquerable. Yet with all the physical advantages these people had, God promised Joshua that they would not be able to stand before him. When God is on our side, He gives us the advantage against any negative situation facing us.

The same God, who was with Moses, promised to be with Joshua. Though Moses was gone, the God of Moses remained. The Lord wanted Joshua to know that the end of the Moses era was not the end of God’s era in Israel. The reason why Moses could do all those fantastic miracles was that God was with Him. The miracles were not the personal works of Moses. If God could use Moses to do His works, He could also use Joshua to do His works.

Similarly, the same God, who was with Joshua, is with us today. Our battles may not be the same as those of Joshua and Israel. We do not go to cities to fight them with sword and spear. The battles we fight may be economic, financial, corporate, health, addictions or bad habits. The promise of God is still the same, ‘no man (situation) shall be able to stand before you’.

As you step into each day of this year, remember the words of the Lord who brought you into this year. Many challenging situations will confront you. In every confrontation, remember that the Lord is with you and that nothing will bring you down.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for your presence with me in every battle. I walk in victory over every situation. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
