The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has condemned the suspension of three of its Members of Parliament (MPs) by the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, calling the decision ‘selective and autocratic.’
The party rejected the Speaker’s action, describing it as a deliberate attempt to suppress the Minority and weaken its oversight role in governance.
In a statement signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the NPP reaffirmed its support for its MPs and aligned itself with the Minority Caucus, which has vowed to resist the decision.
“We wish to state that we do not accept the decision of the Speaker to suspend our Members, as it is in flagrant disregard for the Constitution of the Republic as well as the rules of natural justice,” the party declared.
The suspension of the MPs has sparked tension in Parliament, with the Minority caucus warning that the development could deepen partisan divisions. The NPP insists it will challenge what it views as an abuse of parliamentary rules.
“As a party, we stand firmly with our gallant MPs to address all forms of repression and unfairness in the application of the rules governing Parliament and the Nation,” the statement stated.
