The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has left many of its members in utter shock after an unexpected cancellation of what was anticipated to be an announcement of insurance packages for dues-paying members.

The press conference for the unprecedented announcement, set for May 14, 2024, at 11 AM, and was to be addressed by the party’s National Chairman, Stephen Ayensu Ntim. However, after a prolonged delay, reporters were informed that the press conference had mysteriously been called off.

Disappointed attendees, including visibly frustrated representatives from Enterprise Insurance, were left questioning why the party would call a press conference without being prepared.

Information indicates that the cancellation was directed by a high-ranking official at the Jubilee House, citing insufficient consultation regarding the insurance policy.

General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong was reportedly in a meeting with his staff at the time of the cancellation while other key executives expected to attend the announcement were notably absent.

The proposed insurance package, developed by party executives for fully paid-up members, promised significant benefits.

The tiers include Bronze (GH¢2.00 per month), Silver (GH¢5.00 per month), Gold (GH¢8.00 per month), and Platinum (GH¢10.00 per month). The insurance benefits would have provided GH¢50,000 for Platinum members, GH¢40,000 for Gold members, GH¢30,000 for Silver members, and GH¢20,000 for Bronze members during times of need.

This proposal is part of the second phase of the new dues system aimed at providing tangible value for members’ contributions and reducing the party’s reliance on individual benefactors.

The dues payment system, accessible via the mobile platform 920270#, has been generating between GH¢8,000 and GH¢9,000 daily. The announcement and implementation of the new policy were expected to boost this revenue further.

At the launch of the new dues payment platform last year, National Chairman Stephen Ntim emphasized that the system would ensure accountability. He highlighted that, in addition to membership dues, the party’s constitution also recognizes the role of patrons.

The abrupt cancellation of the press conference has raised questions about internal dynamics within the NPP and the future of the proposed insurance package for its members.
