The Loyal Ladies, a vibrant group within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is advocating for a female vice-presidential candidate in the upcoming 2024 elections.

According to the group, the glass ceiling persists despite the many achievements of women in the NPP and stressed there remains untapped potential awaiting recognition and elevation.

“We believe that the nomination of a woman as a vice-presidential candidate will not only break significant barriers but will also underline our party’s commitment to gender equality and inclusive leadership,” the group said.

The Loyal Ladies made the call as part of celebrating their eighth anniversary of promoting women’s rights and community development across Ghana.

Since its establishment in 2016, the Loyal Ladies has been a key player in driving socio-economic initiatives and empowering women at the grassroots level.

“Over the past eight years, our tireless efforts have not only highlighted societal ills but have actively contributed to the socio-economic upliftment of women across the nation,” the group said in a statement.

The group’s activities have ranged from offering training and advocacy to providing micro-grants, all aimed at empowering women to pursue entrepreneurship and improve their family’s livelihood.

Through its collective commitment, the group has witnessed the transformative power of unity and empowerment, shaping a brighter future for generations to come.

At the core of the celebration is the Loyal Ladies’ endorsement of increasing female representation in higher political offices, including the vice presidency.

The statement said, “Celebrating our achievements, we also recognize the pivotal role of women in propelling our party and our nation towards progress and prosperity. A nomination of a woman for the Vice-Presidential candidacy would be a significant milestone in our party’s history and a powerful affirmation of the pivotal role women have played in shaping our success thus far.”

According to the ladies, historically, under NPP governments, women have held high-ranking positions, including Chief of Staff and Chief Justice, showcasing their capabilities and contributions to Ghana’s advancement.

However, the Loyal Ladies emphasize that more can be done.

“As we look ahead to the future, Loyal Ladies remains steadfast in its commitment to advancing the rights and opportunities of women across Ghana. Together, let us continue to champion the cause of empowerment, equality, and progress, forging a nation where every woman can thrive and contribute to a brighter tomorrow,” the statement said.

The Loyal Ladies remain steadfast in their mission, as Ghana heads towards another election, to advocate for women’s rights and equal opportunities, reinforcing their vision of a nation where every woman can thrive and contribute to a brighter tomorrow.
