The National Executive of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will engage the government and members of the Majority group in Parliament over demands for Ken Ofori-Atta and Charles Adu Boahene to be dismissed.

Some members of the Majority Caucus on Tuesday October 25, held a press conference and demanded amongst other things the immediate resignation or dismissal of the Finance Minister and the Minister of State at the Finance Ministry.

A statement issued by the National Chairman, Stephen Ayensu Ntim assured the party will do its best to settle the matter.

The group, mostly made up of backbenchers issued an ultimatum to President Akufo-Addo and indicated this action is required to give confidence to the financial sector and to help stabilize the struggling Cedi.

Member for Asante Akim North, Andy Appiah-Kubi, who spoke on behalf of the group warned failure to heed their call and they will boycott all government business in Parliament.

He said, “We are, by this medium, expressing our strong desire that the President change the Minister of Finance and the Minister of State at the Finance Ministry without further delay in order to restore hope to the financial sector and reverse the downward trend in the growth of the economy.”

“We plead that the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori atta, and the Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance, Charles Adu Boahene be removed from office.”

”We hope this prayer will be carried to the presidency.”

“We want to serve notice, however, that until such persons are made to resign or removed from office, we members of the Majority caucus here in Parliament will not participate in any government business by or for the President or any minister,” they threatened.

The group warned that unless the request is responded to positively, they will also boycott presentation of the 2023 budget statement and will not participate in the debate.

According to the NPP Chairman, the leadership is seeking an amicable resolution to the impasse and urged all stakeholders to remain calm.

He reiterated their commitment to at all times engage the government on issues of utmost interest and concern to the party, the government, and the citizenry.
