The Greater Accra Regional vetting committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has disqualified two aspirants, Richard Hagan from Okaikoi South, and Samuel Owusu Amankwah from Ayawaso West Wuogon, from participating in the party’s parliamentary primaries.
Hagan’s disqualification was attributed to the late submission of his nomination forms, while Amankwah was disqualified for not being in good standing with the party.
Despite these eliminations, the committee approved eleven other aspirants from six constituencies in the region after meeting the party’s constitutional requirements.
Notable among them are Madam Dakoa Newman from OkaiKoi South, incumbent MP Dr. Adomako Kissi, and his contender Elder Emmanuel Tobbin from Anyaa Sowutuom, as well as Nana Boakye and Robert Richard Siapim from Tema West.
Incumbent MP for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, Michael Oquaye, and Sheila Oppong Sakyi were among those approved by the committee.
In Bortianor Ngleshie Amanfro, incumbent MP Sylvester Tetteh and his contenders Vida Agyekum Acheampong and Eric Kojo Kuranchie also passed the vetting process.
Speaking to the media after completing the vetting process, Dr. Adomako Kissi highlighted the importance of his experience in the 8th Parliament and expressed confidence in retaining the seat for the party.
Adwoa Safo, an aspirant for Dome-Kwabenya, affirmed her confidence in winning the party’s primaries and retaining the seat in the 2024 general election, citing continued trust and confidence from her constituents.
Michael Oquaye expressed confidence in defeating Adwoa Safo and retaining the seat for the NPP in the upcoming elections.
The Greater Accra Regional Secretary of the NPP, Mr. Daniel Parker Odarlai France, expressed satisfaction with the vetting process, noting its orderliness compared to previous exercises.
Regarding the disqualifications, France explained that Richard Hagan failed to submit his nomination forms before the deadline, while Samuel Owusu Amankwah was disqualified for not being in good standing as a party member.
Hagan, in response to his disqualification, stated that he would not appeal the decision but pledged continued support for the party in the 2024 General Election.
The party is scheduled to hold elections for constituencies with sitting MPs on January 27, 2024, with fourteen constituencies in the Greater Accra Region participating.
