Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa, Kobina Tahir Hammond, has escalated his bid to disqualify his opponents by submitting another petition to the National Vetting Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
This time, Hammond seeks the disqualification of all three opponents in the party’s upcoming parliamentary primaries.
On January 2, 2024, K.T. Hammond initially filed a petition with the Ashanti Regional Vetting Committee, urging the disqualification of his main opponent, Sammy Binfoh Darkwa.
However, the committee dismissed the petition after thorough deliberations, granting both aspirants the green light to commence their campaign for the primary.
Undeterred by the regional committee’s decision, K.T. Hammond has now taken his case to the National Vetting Committee, aiming for the disqualification of all his opponents.
K.T. Hammond, in his petition, expressed dissatisfaction with the decision of the Ashanti Regional Vetting Committee, chaired by NPP National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye and Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako.
Citing Article 12(4) and (7) of the party’s constitution, K.T. Hammond argued that his opponents, including Sammy Binfoh Darkwa, the Managing Director of the Ghana Publishing Company, are ineligible to contest in the parliamentary primaries.
Hammond urged the National Vetting Committee to disqualify his opponents based on the allegations he has leveled against them.
He accused them of lacking NPP affiliation and contributing minimally to the progress of the constituency.
As the January 27 primaries draw near, the campaign has intensified, with aspirants actively engaging delegates in preparation for the upcoming election.
