Ranking Member of the Defence and Interior Committee of Parliament, Rev John Ntim Fordjour, has requested key security agencies, including National Security, the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID), the Narcotics Control Commission, and the National Investigations Bureau (NIB), to brief the Committee on critical security matters of national concern.

The meeting is scheduled to take place on Monday, April 7, 2025, at 11:00 AM in the Committee Room of Parliament.

The request seeks to obtain updates on investigations into major security incidents that have recently gripped the nation.

Among the cases the Assin South MP is seeking explanation is the National Security operation in Sapeiman on February 9, which led to the discovery of twelve 20-foot containers filled with gold bars and large sums of currency.

The Committee will also probe the high-profile cocaine busts involving seizures worth $350 million and $120 million in March.

Another pressing matter on the agenda is the investigation into two suspicious flights—AirMed Flight N823AM and Cavok Air Antonov An-128—that arrived at Kotoka International Airport from Gran Canaria on March 12 and March 20, respectively, and departed back to the same destination on March 25.

The Ranking Member suspects the flights may have been linked to illicit cargo.

Hon. Fordjour emphasized the urgency of the briefing, stating the Committee finds it necessary to get firsthand updates from the security agencies on these matters of grave public interest.

The security agencies are expected to provide detailed reports on the ongoing investigations and outline measures being taken to address the threats posed by these incidents.
