The Nungua Youth Association (NYA) has condemned recent allegations against Deputy Inspector General of Police, Commission of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno.
The association, in a statement made available to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) expressed concern over the sudden use of social and other media platforms to attack and vilify some notable citizens, especially those in high-standing positions, including COP Yohuno, since the last election.
The statement, signed by Mr. Roland Borteye Pong, Acting Secretary, “The NYA finds these attacks to be unwarranted, diabolical with political undertones, and with the sole motive to dent the image of the personalities in case of any consideration for a higher portfolio by the new government.
“It is good to aspire for high offices, but it is criminal to attempt to destroy the high-end reputation of another person just in another’s pursuit of higher office, and the NYA cannot sit and watch while high-profile personalities of Ga State are dragged in the bud.”
According to the NYA, such diabolical acts contradict the cultural and traditional values of the Greater Accra Region, known for its hospitality and peaceful coexistence with diverse ethnic and tribal groups.
.
The association emphasised the need for dignity and restraint, urging Ghanaians to respect one other’s rights, freedoms, and liberties.
The NYA specifically highlights the recent targeting of COP Yohuno, describing it as “troubling and dastardly.”
The association notes that the allegations, including claims that COP Yohuno was politically exposed and inclined to the former government, were baseless and intended to create public disaffection.
The NYA stressed that such orchestrated allegations have the potential to create an arena of conflict, particularly at a sensitive time in Ghana’s national governance.
The NYA stated further stated: “We have also noted the natural pushback by concerned persons and groups, including the Osudoku Youth Association (“OYA”). We have noted their publications on some media platforms.
“These are baseless accusations intended to create public disaffection for COP Yohuno and to block his chances of becoming an Inspector General of Police soon should there be a vacancy,” the NYA stated.
The association emphasizes the need for Ghanaians to come together and promote a culture of respect, dignity, and restraint.
COP Yohuno, the statement said, “stands as one of Ghana’s most respected law enforcement leaders.”
A brief profile made available to the media indicated the law enforcement officer’s rise to “the top position in the police service is a testament to his decades of dedicated service, exemplary leadership, and unwavering commitment to national security.
“With over 20 years in the Ghana Police Service, COP Yohuno has earned a reputation for efficiency, integrity, and a deep commitment to public safety.
