Renowned Ghanaian lawyer, Sam Okudzeto, has said he is highly impressed with the works of the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng.
The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) is currently after officials alleged to have engaged in illegal mining or associated with the menace. It is investigating over 120 cases related to corruption and corruption-related offences in the mining and other sectors of society.
The OSP has expanded its investigation into the activities and expenditure of the defunct Inter-Ministerial Committee Against Illegal Mining (IMCIM) by interrogating more officials including its former chairman and executive secretary Prof Frimpong Boateng and Charles Bissue respectively.
Some critics have since questioned the SP accusing him of witch-hunting due to his actions in the past few weeks.
However, speaking to Beatrice Adu on TownHall Talk on Asaase 99.5 Accra on Friday (23 June), Okudzeto said: “There was this programme on Joy FM and the Special Prosecutor spoke about what he has done and what he is doing, and I can assure you that I was highly impressed.”
“The task is not an easy job, because he is not a policeman, but when allegations come before him, his job is to follow the law…”
Okudzeto added: “And unfortunately, again, in Ghana, things happen that when he invites someone, because allegations have been made, we publicise it already and give the impression as if the person has been arrested and is being investigated.”
He wants the media to be circumspect in reporting issues related to the Office of the Special Prosecutor and its work.
