Mr John Dramani Mahama, the Presidential Candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has urged the electorate to resist the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) campaign on “skirt and blouse” in the upcoming December 7 election.

He reiterated the significance of voting based on principles of competence, integrity and proven track records of politicians dedicated to advancing national development.

Addressing a mini rally at Kasoa in the Awutu Senya East Constituency, Mr Mahama criticised the NPP’s strategy to entice the electorate to support NPP parliamentary candidates while casting their vote for any presidential candidate.

He interpreted the cunning campaign by the NPP as an indication of the party’s acknowledgement of defeat before the election.

He urged the electorate to remain vigilant, emphasising that the NDC would secure a majority in Parliament to effectively fulfil governmental responsibilities.

Mahama assured the crowd of the NDC’s unwavering commitment to victory in both the Presidential and Parliamentary election, disregarding any negative political manoeuvres employed by the NPP.

He accused the NPP of plunging many Ghanaians into poverty through reckless borrowing and mismanagement of the economy.

He highlighted the case of Dr Michael Agyekum Addo of Mikado, who faced financial distress due to the government’s debt exchange program, leading to his unfortunate demise.

The former President underscored the adverse impacts of the debt exchange program, which was initiated to address the government’s excessive borrowing of $11.5 billion.

He lamented the hardships endured by numerous Ghanaians under the current administration and contrasted it with the progress achieved during his tenure.

Mr Mahama enumerated the infrastructural developments in Kasoa, such as interchanges, schools, and lorry stations, which transformed the town and created opportunities for its residents.

He cautioned that a vote for the NPP would be detrimental to the country’s future, citing their poor management of national resources and further warned against a potential third term under Akufo-Addo’s administration, labelling it as corrupt and nepotistic.

The former President assured the audience of a brighter future under an NDC government, focusing on revitalising the economy through investments in agriculture, manufacturing, and the creative sector as outlined in the party’s 2024 manifesto.

Mr Mahama pledged to establish a 24-hour economy to foster business growth and job creation.

Reflecting on the NDC’s previous term, he highlighted their efforts in infrastructure development, including roads, power plants, ports, hospitals, schools and tertiary education institutions.

Ms Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor, the NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Awutu-Senya-East, called for unity and cohesive campaigning to retain the seat and continue development projects aimed at improving livelihoods.

She urged campaign teams to work diligently and collaborate effectively with electoral areas and polling stations to ensure the NDC’s message resonates well with the electorate.
