The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has officially removed former Finance Minister Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta from its list of wanted persons after he committed to voluntarily returning to Ghana for questioning.
Ofori-Atta, who was declared wanted on February 12, 2025, for failing to indicate a reasonable timeline for his return despite being under investigation for alleged corruption-related offences, communicated through his lawyers on February 18, 2025, to confirm a specific date for his return.
The OSP, led by Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, deemed the stated timeline reasonable and has subsequently rescheduled Ofori-Atta’s appearance for questioning.
The Special Prosecutor’s office noted that Ofori-Atta’s new stance represented a “major shift” from his earlier position of staying outside Ghana indefinitely.
“Consequently, Mr. Ofori-Atta has been removed from the OSP’s list of wanted persons and the OSP ceases to consider Mr. Ofori-Atta a fugitive from justice pending his voluntary return to the jurisdiction,” the OSP stated in its press release.
However, the OSP warned that if he fails to return as promised, he will immediately be reinstated as a wanted person.
“If Mr. Ofori-Atta fails to voluntarily return to the jurisdiction on his stated date, and if he fails to attend the OSP on the rescheduled date, he shall be re-entered on the OSP’s list of wanted persons,” the statement continued.
The Special Prosecutor emphasized that the office remains dedicated to ensuring accountability, fairness, and due process in all its investigations.
