The out-going Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Mrs Naana Eyiah Quansah, has denied rumours that she collapsed and was rushed to Trauma and Specialists Hospital in Winneba after her defeat in the December 7 general election.
The Deputy Interior Minister said nothing happened to her as she was doing very well, adding that she ate her best food right after it emerged that she had lost the election.
‘’That evening, I took in my best food and slept well and woke up in the morning with full strength, so I’m okay; nothing happened to me as being speculated,’’ she said.
Naana Eyiah said this at a press conference to debunk what she described as “falsehood being peddled against her” after the election defeat at Gomoa Ekwamkrom in the Gomoa Central District of the Central Region.
“I want to express my deepest gratitude to the constituents in Gomoa Central, particularly communities which voted for me and Dr Mahamudu Bawumia during December 7, 2024, elections,’’ she said.
‘’Thank you for all the honour and dignity you bestowed on me in the past eight years as your representative in Parliament. I really appreciate it.”
She said the Gomoa Central Constituency voted for NPP in the 2016 and 2020 parliamentary and presidential elections due to the high confidence and trust they had in the Party.
However, the electorate decided to change their voting pattern in the 2024 elections and therefore wished them well.
Mrs Eyiah Quansah assured that she would do whatever was needed for the Gomoa Central Constituency in the few weeks left before she bows out.
The Deputy Interior Minister expressed gratitude to her entire constituency executives and Mr. Benjamin Kojo Otoo, the District Chief Executive, for their tremendous efforts and support that ensured unity, peace and tranquillity within the Party.
She further urged the Constituency executives of the NPP and all the people in the Area to unite and support the new Parliamentary Candidate to succeed.
She however, condemned the mob attacks and vandalism against a newly constructed police station at Gomoa Obuasi by some youth after an Okada rider was beheaded at Gomoa Afransi.
She said it was unfortunate that they took the law into their hands to attack a police personnel member on duty for refusing to release an alleged killer of the Okada Rider whom the youth believed was being kept at the police cells.
The MP urged parents and guardians in the constituency to advise their children to desist from such behaviour on order not to retard development in the constituency.
Mrs Eyiah Quansah was defeated by Mr Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as “A Plus,” a musician and an entrepreneur who contested as independent candidate.
