Parliament to begin vetting of Ministerial nominees today

The Ministerial nominees of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will be appearing before the Appointments Committee of Parliament tomorrow, Wednesday 10th February 2021 to justify their inclusion in the Executive arm of Government.

The nominees would be grilled at a public hearing to determine whether they are persons of integrity, capable of discharging the duties of Ministers of State as enshrined in the 1992 Constitution.

Article 78 (1) of the Constitution states that “Ministers of State shall be appointed by the President with the prior approval of Parliament from among members of Parliament or persons qualified to be elected as members of Parliament, except that majority of Ministers of State shall be appointed from among Members of Parliament.

As part of the approval process, members of the general public are expected to assist the Appointment or Vetting Committee with information about the President’s nominees to enable Parliament to critically scrutinize whether they are capable and competent representatives of the President at the various ministries.

The first batch of ministerial nominees appearing on Wednesday, February 10th, 2021 includes Hon. Kwaku Agyeman Manu, Minister-Designate for Health Minister, and Mr. Kan Dapaah, Designate for National Security.

Thursday, 11th February. 2021, Hon Dominic Nitiwul, Minister-Designate for Defence will take his turn along with the Minister-Designate for Education, Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum Minister.

On Friday 12th February, 2021 three Ministers-Designate and they include Minister-Designate for Parliamentary Affairs, Hon. Osei Kyel Mensah Bonsu;  Attorney General and Minister-Designate for Justice, Mr. Godfred Dame and Hon. Ambrose Dery, Minister Designate for Interior.

On Monday, 15th February, 2021, Hon. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Minister-Designate for Energy; and Ms. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Minister-Designate for Foreign Affairs will appear before the Committee.

Tuesday, 16th February, 2021 will be the turn of Hon. Kwasi Amoako-Atta, Minister-Designate for Roads and  Highways; Hon Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful Minister-Designate for Communications and Digitisation; and the Finance Minister-Designate, Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta Minister.

Wednesday, 17th February. 2021  Hon. Ignatius Baffuor Awuah, Minister Designate for Employment and Labour Relations; Hon. Dan Botwe, Minister Designate for Local Government, Decentralisation & Rural Dev’l; and Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo, Minister Designate for Gender. Children and Social Protection.

Thursday, 18th February, 2021: Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson, Minister-Designate for Fisheries and Aquaculture; and Minister-Designate for Information, Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah 

Friday, 19th February, 2021: Hon. Dr. Kwaku Afriyie, Minister Designate for Environment, Science. Technology & Innovation; and Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Minister-Designate for Food and Agriculture.

Monday, 22nd February, 2021: Ms. Cecilia Dapaah, Minister Designate for Sanitation and Waters Resources; Mr. Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, Minister Designate for Transport.

Tuesday 23rd February, 2021: Joseph Cudjoe, Minister Designate for Public Enterprises; Hon. Freda Prempeh, Minister Designate for Works and Housing (Minister of State); and Hon. Samuel Abdulai Jinapor, Minister Designate for Lands and Natural Resources.

Wednesday, 24th February, 2021: Hon. John Peter Amewu, Minister Designate for Railway Development; Hon. Francis Asenso Boakye, Minister Designate for Works and Housing, and Mr. Awal Mohammed, Minister Designate for Tourism, Arts and Culture.

Thursday, 25th  February, 2021, Hon. Mustapha Yussif, Minister Designate for Youth and Sports; 

Hon. Ebenezer Kojo Kum, Minister Designate for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs; and Mr. Alan Kyerematen,   Minister Designate for Trade and Industry.

Friday, 26th February, 2021: Hon. Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah, Minister Designate for Western Region; Hon. Henry Quartey, Minister Designate for Greater Accra; and Mr. Seth Acheampong, Minister Designate for Eastern Region.

Tuesday, 1st March, 2021: Mr. George Boakye, Minister Designate for Ahafo Region; Mr. Simon Osei Mensah, Minister Designate for Ashanti Region; and Ms. Justina Owusu-Banahene, Minister Designate for Bono Region.

Tuesday, 2nd March, 2021: Mr. Adu Gyan, Minister-Designate for Bono East Region; Ms. Justina Marigold Assan, Minister-Designate for Central Region; and Mr. Shani Alhassan Saibu, Minister-Designate for Northern Region.

On Wednesday, 3rd March, 2021, Mr. Yidana Zakaria, Minister-Designate for North East Region; Mr. Joseph Makubu, Minister-Designate for Oti Region; and Mr. Saeed Muhazu Jibril, Minister Designate for Savannah Region will take their turn.

Thursday, 4th March, 2021 will be the turn of Mr. Stephen Yakubu, Minister Designate for Upper East Regio; Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih, Minister Designate for Upper West Region; and Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, Minister-Designate for Volta Region.On Tuesday, 9th March 2021, Mr. Richard Obeng, Minister-Designate for Western North Region make his appearance as the only Minister to be vetted on the day.
