The New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Executive Committee has cautioned it is the only body that holds the authority to issue directives governing the conduct of the party’s internal elections.

The Committee, therefore, calls for an immediate cessation of all directives on the Parliamentary primaries until they have been officially approved in accordance with the Party’s Constitution.

This follows unauthorized directives issued by some Regional Executive Committees on the upcoming parliamentary primaries in orphan constituencies.

The directives include the fixing of tentative dates for the conduct of the parliamentary primaries and charging of a ‘development levy’, among others.

In a statement addressed to all Constituency Executive Committees, the General Secretary of the party, Justin Kodua, emphasized the need to uphold constitutional mandates and the party’s established processes.

He acknowledged the well-meaning intentions behind the regional decisions but reiterated that all directives related to party elections must originate from the National Executive Committee.

“While the national executive body acknowledges and appreciates the otherwise good intentions behind these decisions, you are hereby reminded that directives governing the conduct of elections of the Party can only be issued by the National Executive Committee, the appropriate body constitutionally mandated to do so,” the statement said.

Mr. Kodua urged all Regional Executive Committees to immediately halt the issuance of any further directives on the conduct of parliamentary primaries until they have been officially approved by the National Executive Committee.

He also directed the refunding of any monies collected from prospective parliamentary candidates in line with the unauthorized and unapproved directives.
