The Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, Hon. Patrick Yaw Boamah, has donated 1,000 packs of bottled water and an unspecified amount of money to the Christian Council of Ghana to support the Christian community’s Easter celebrations.
The donation, made on Tuesday, April 15, was warmly received by the Council during a brief ceremony held in Accra.
Hon. Yaw Boamah noted that the gesture was his way of contributing to the observance of the Holy Week. Acknowledging the various spiritual activities planned — including conventions, church services, and Easter Monday picnics — he remarked, “So I decided to come and donate 1,000 boxes of water and a small token amount of money to support the World Ecclesiastical System.”
Rt. Rev. Dr. Hilliard Dogbe, Chairman of the Christian Council, received the donation with heartfelt appreciation. Visibly moved, Dr. Dogbe praised Hon. Boamah’s consistent faith and support for the Christian community.
“Some of us have had occasions to encounter you a few times, and your faith is not in doubt,” he said. Emphasizing the spiritual importance of giving during this sacred period, he added, “One of the verses we are always grateful for in Scripture is: ‘Blessed is the hand that gives and the hand that takes.’ Even as we are glad to receive, we also pray that God will bless the works of your hands.”
“Water will not get finished in your territory. Food will never run out. God’s grace, mercies, and peace will abide with you in all your doings. And your dreams and aspirations will also come true,” he added.
In response, Hon. Boamah expressed his appreciation for the warm reception and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting faith-based initiatives and promoting the welfare of the people.
Also present at the ceremony was Lieutenant-Colonel Justice Isaac Incoom, Secretary for Programmes of the Salvation Army Ghana, who described the donation as a historic moment.
“To me, I think it’s historic, as far as my memory serves me. When Muslims are fasting, MPs and ministers donate to support them. But I can’t recall a similar donation during a major Christian observance like this. So I believe this is historic in itself,” he said.
He called on other political and national leaders to emulate Hon. Yaw Boamah’s example by supporting the Christian community during key celebrations such as Easter.
“As you have started, we pray others will follow suit. Ministers and MPs in our country will remember to support us, so that we all feel included,” he stressed.
