The Office of the President in Ghana has vehemently denied allegations circulating on social media suggesting politically motivated changes within the hierarchy of the Armed Forces.

The accusations claimed President Nana Addo Danknwa Akufo-Addo intends to deploy the military to enforce political interests during the upcoming December 7 general elections.

However, the Director of Communications at the presidency, Eugene Arhin, clarified that a routine meeting between President Akufo-Addo and Heads of Security agencies took place at Jubilee House on January 2, 2024.

The meeting, an annual event on the President’s calendar, is an occasion for security leaders to extend New Year wishes and for the President to express gratitude for their dedication to national peace and stability.

He emphasized, “Contrary to the allegations made in the publication on social media, no such discussions about changes to the hierarchy of the Armed Forces were held during the meeting.”

Eugene Arhin indicated that any changes in the leadership of the Armed Forces are conducted in adherence to the Constitution and established conventions, without political considerations.

“The Akufo-Addo-led administration shall continue to guard earnestly this reputation by ensuring that partisanship is eschewed from the operations of the Ghana Armed Forces,” he affirmed.

President Akufo-Addo has assured Ghanaians that the 2024 general elections will be conducted with transparency and fairness, devoid of electoral violence.

He warned that entities or persons attempting to disrupt the elections would be dealt with according to the country’s laws.

To maintain public calm and stability, the Director of Communications urged citizens to disregard what he called “unfounded speculations and publications aimed at triggering agitations within the rank and file of the Armed Forces.”
