President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will deliver the Message on the State of the Nation Address in Parliament next week Wednesday 8th March, 2023.
The address is pursuant to Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution.
The President was scheduled to appear before the House to deliver his address on the 28th February, 2023 but was subsequently rescheduled to March 8.
President Akufo-Addo will be expected to present his plans for next year including government programs and what strategies the government intends to implement, how to achieve them, and how to rally the people of Ghana towards accelerated national development and progress, among others.
The President is expected to also address the domestic debt exchange programme and ongoing engagement with international creditors to ensure the country gets the IMF’s $3 billion bailout as soon as possible
Deputy Chairman of the Business Committee, Alexander Afenyo-Markin who presented the Business statement for the ensuing week disclosed debate on the address, a motion to thank HE the President for the Message on the State of the Nation would be moved on Thursday, 9 March, 2023 and would last for 6 days; from Thursday, 9th March, 2023 to Friday, 17 March, 2023.
On the allotment of time for the debate, the Deputy leader indicated the mover and seconder of the Motion will speak for 25 minutes, Chairpersons and Ranking Members/ Ministers 15 minutes, other members 10 minutes.
The Majority and Minority leaders will get 30 minutes each to wind up.
The allotment of time, he said, is to ensure as many members as possible are availed the opportunity to contribute to the debate on the address.
Hon. Afenyo-Markin urged members to endeavour to be as brief as possible and also avoid repetitions.
