Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the vice-presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has slammed President Akufo-Addo’s decision to erect his statue in Takoradi amid widespread economic hardship in Ghana.

Speaking on Tuesday, she argued that the move is out of touch with the reality many Ghanaians face, as the prices of goods and services continue to rise under the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration.

The NDC running mate noted that economic challenges particularly impact women, who often shoulder the heaviest burdens in difficult times.

Her remarks came as she began a two-day campaign tour of the North East Region, starting with a visit to the Regent of Wungu, Sulemana Saka Adams, in the Walewale constituency.

During her visit, Opoku-Agyemang emphasized that the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) government has struggled to create employment opportunities, contributing to high unemployment rates, especially among the youth.

She assured Ghanaians that, under a new NDC administration, focused efforts would be made to alleviate economic hardship.

The initiatives she espoused were the proposed “24-Hour Economy,” the “Big Push” infrastructure plan, the Women’s Development Bank, and a National Apprenticeship Programme.

These policies aim to create jobs, empower women, and stimulate national development.

Opoku-Agyemang urged Ghanaians to consider a shift in leadership and to vote for NDC’s presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, in the upcoming December 7 elections.

She asserted that a vote for Mahama and the NDC would pave the way for much-needed change, bringing relief and renewed hope to all Ghanaians.
