Mrs Pearl Adusu Sateckla, Public Relations Officer of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), has advised drivers to adhere to speed limits whilst going about their celebrations this Christmas.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency on Friday, she said speeding was the cause of frequent crashes in the country and urged drivers to help the NRSA to wage war against the menace.

Mrs Sateckla explained that the speed limit for crowded areas was 30km/h, 50km/h in townships and settlements, 90km/h at most on highways and 100km/h only on motorways.

She said the NRSA was embarking on a campaign this Christmas dubbed, “Stop Speeding and Stay Alive’ and together with the Police, they would mount up cameras to detect speeding and arrest offenders.

Mrs Sateckla advised drivers not to drive tired, take the needed rest where necessary and exercise caution when driving at dawn due to the poor visibility caused by the harmattan season.

“For all of us to enjoy Christmas in comfort, pleasure and excitement, let us do so devoid of crashes on our major highways. If you drink, don’t drive. Commercial drivers should not try to make extreme economic gains and by so doing flout the laws. Rest well before setting off; never drive tired,” she said.

She wished all Ghanaians a Merry Christmas and Prosperous New Year.
