The Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council has rendered an unqualified apology to the Deputy Minister of Transport, Hassan Tampuli, for some unsavoury comments attributed to him by the Concerned Drivers Union.

The Council dissociated itself from the allegation and stressed Mr. David Agboado of the Concerned Drivers Union should be held personally responsible for his actions.

A statement issued by the Council on Monday noted its attention was drawn to the accusation by Mr. Agboado following a meeting held at the instance of the leadership of the Transport Operators at the Trade Union Congress (TUC) Hall in Accra.

“Indeed, the Deputy Minister was invited to the said meeting, which was attended by some coalition members of the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council and other Transport Unions.”

“The Deputy Minister during the meeting explained the various taxes on the petroleum price build-up and never made any such statement as being purported by Mr. David Agboado.”

“This is a malicious act and should not be entertained,” a statement signed by Emmanuel Ohene-Yeboah, the General Secretary said.

The Council, he cautioned, will not allow misguided elements parading as transport operators to use its membership to pursue their personal agenda other than the growth of the industry.

“We disassociate ourselves from the said statement and that Mr. Abgoado should be held responsible for his actions,” it added.
