Just heard something that brought a memory.
Yesterday, my first court schedule (commencement of trial in the Kwasi Twum & Ors. vs. Ken Agyapong & Ors. case) was at 10:30am. I had a bit of time to spare to check Tv discourse of the devastation suffered from the opening of the floodgates of the Akosombo Dam.
I flipped, flipped and gave up. Yes, it was, expectedly, almost the only topic.
But prime channels greeted me with such revolting gush of fury and vitriol at the person of the President for his joke gone wrong. Those leading the charge were mostly young political leaders. I sincerely think and suggest we try to disagree or even show rambunctious revulsion without such level of disrespect and naked insulting abuse. Saturday,
Samson’s Take was about the sub-culture of insults esp of the elderly. It is something I have spoken about for a while. I feel something is not right. Let’s win by the strength of our arguments.
That’s how Ghana wins. It can be frustrating and we may falter, and that’s just a reminder we are only human. But we can be deliberate about not normalizing such public discourse, as we also think about those who may be influenced. I commit to be the change I seek.
