The Forestry Commission in the Kwahu Afram Plains North District has arrested a senior high school (SHS) teacher and four others for cultivating cannabis, popularly known as “wee”, in the district.
The suspects illegally cultivated the cannabis in the Akroma Forest Reserve in the Kwahu Afram Plains North District of the Eastern Region.
A tip-off on their activities led to their arrest.
After the arrest, five containers of the cannabis, three other big sacks, cutlasses, hoes, among others, were found with the suspects.
One of the suspect, Michael Anakpo, an Agric teacher at the Donkorkrom Agric Senior High School (DASHS), is suspected to be in charge of the cannabis farm.
Eight more of the suspects are on the run.
The five arrested have been handed over to the Donkorkrom police.
The District Forestry Manager, Richard Amoateng, said the Commission would intensify monitoring activities to stop the illegal cultivation of the cannabis.
Currently, it is illegal to cultivate cannabis for commercial purposes.
The Narcotic Control Commission Act 2020 Act 1019 only promotes the use of cannabis for medicinal and scientific purposes
