The State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA) reaffirmed its commitment to transparent communication with the media as it hosted the Second SIGA Editors’ Forum at its premises in Accra on Tuesday, October 17, 2023.

The forum, a follow-up to the inaugural engagement in January, aimed to bolster the relationship between SIGA and the media, acknowledging the vital role journalists play in informing the public about SIGA’s initiatives and the Specified Entities under its purview.

He highlighted SIGA’s recent endeavors, including supervising the preparation of the State Ownership Report for 2021 and 2022, organizing the Public Enterprises League Table (PELT) Awards, and conducting a study tour to China with some State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs).

Amb. Boateng emphasized the significance of the media in nation-building and urged collaboration to share SIGA’s initiatives and the success stories of Specified Entities despite their challenges.

During the forum, Mr. Mac-Effort Adadey, Head of National Accounts at the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the impact of Specified Entities on Ghana’s GDP.

He highlighted the increase in the number of entities included in the consolidated National Account, rising from 19 in 2020 to 62 in 2022.

Adadey noted that SEs’ contribution to GDP soared from GH¢10 billion in 2020 to GH¢58.27 billion in 2022, underlining their significant role in the country’s economic growth.

Furthermore, the Head of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Stephen Asiedu, and Mr. Joseph Sarpong, Manager for the Regulatory Sector of the Performance Monitoring and Evaluation (PME) Division, presented detailed accounts of SIGA’s activities outlined by the Director-General.

Asiedu assured the editors of SIGA’s readiness to provide further clarification on any topic related to their Specified Entities.

In a lively question-and-answer session, concerns were addressed, showcasing the active engagement between SIGA and the media representatives.

The editors expressed their appreciation for the update and pledged to inform the public effectively using the information shared during the forum.

The event was attended by SIGA’s management and staff, fostering a collaborative atmosphere.

The forum ended with a positive note of mutual understanding and commitment to ongoing cooperation between SIGA and the media.
