Six police officers involved in a shooting incident in Lamashegu near Tamale in the Northern Region have been interdicted.
The six are General Corporal Prosper Mormesimu, General Constable Harrison Twum Danso and General Corporal Samson Kweku Darfour, General Constable Matthew Sah, General Constable Nuhu Muntari and Constable Doris Serwa Bonsu.
A statement issued by the Ghana Police Service on Monday 14 February 2022 said a team of investigators has been dispatched to Tamale to probe the violence.
“The police administration has also dispatched a team of investigators led by the deputy director-general of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), DCOP Frederick Agyei to lead the investigation into the matter.”
“Personnel from the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) have also been detailed alongside the CID team to look at professional standard related issues of the incident,” The statement said,
The statement indicated that the clash started when a police patrol team attempted to stop an unregistered saloon car but the driver refused to stop.
The patrol team then pursued the car to the Lamashegu chief’s palace and allegedly fired into the car.
