The trial of former Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF) Board Chair, Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, has hit another snag after he failed to appear in court for the second time, citing health issues.

Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi, alongside ex-GIIF CEO Solomon Asamoah, faces charges of willfully causing financial loss to the state. The duo allegedly authorized a controversial $2 million payment to Africa Investor Holdings for the stalled Sky Train project—despite no work being done.

In court on Tuesday, May 20, the professor’s lawyer, Duke Aaron Sasu, claimed his client was rushed to the hospital, repeating his absence from the May 13 hearing for similar medical reasons. Justice Comfort Tasiame, visibly concerned, questioned the timing of these emergencies but allowed proceedings to continue.

Meanwhile, Asamoah remains in custody after failing to meet his steep GH¢15 million bail conditions, requiring two sureties with Accra-based landed property.

Deputy Attorney General Dr. Justice Srem-Sai hinted that prosecutors may reassess their strategy if the delays persist. The case resumes Monday, May 26, at 10:00 a.m., with mounting pressure for accountability.
