The Electoral Commission (EC) says it is ready for the Special Voting Exercise slated for Monday, December 2, 2024.

A total of 131, 478, representing 0.007 per cent of the total registered voters of 18, 74159 will participate in the exercise.

The exercise will be held in 328 Centres across the country.

The Special Voting Exercise is conducted for eligible voters who are assigned election-related responsibilities on the main election day and, as a result, are unable to vote on December 7, 2024.

They comprise election officials, personnel from the security agencies and media practitioners.

Addressing a press conference in Accra on Friday evening, Mrs Jean Mensa, Chairperson of the EC, said all election materials had been deployed for onward distribution to the 328 Centres to host the exercise across the country.

She said five election officials will supervise the elections in all the voting centres.

“We are ready to conduct transparent, credible and peaceful elections,” she told journalists on Friday.

Mrs. Mensa said personnel from the security agencies and journalists who did not apply for the Special Voting Exercise cannot participate in the elections on Monday.

She said such persons could rather participate in the main elections on Saturday, December 7, 2024.

Mrs. Mensa said votes for the Special Voting would not be counted on Monday

“The special votes will be counted on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at the Constituency Collation centres and added to the votes cast on December 7, 2024,” she said.

Mrs. Mensa said the Commission had received assurance from the security agencies that the elections could be held peacefully at Bawku in the Upper West Region in spite of recent clashes in the town.

She said voters at Bawku would  participate in the Special Voting exercise.

“We are confident our staff will live to the high standards we have set for them,” Mrs Mensa said.
