The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has recognized nine self-employed contributors for their exceptional dedication to the Scheme, as part of efforts to inspire greater participation in the Self-Employed Enrolment Drive (SEED).

The awards were presented last Friday during SSNIT’s 2024 Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols at the Pension House in Accra. self-employed contributors

Speaking at the event, SSNIT’s Director-General, Mr. Kofi Osafo-Maafo, commended the awardees for their unwavering commitment to contributing towards their retirement security.

“As the Trust recognises your contributions to the Scheme towards your retirement journey, we also wish to encourage you and all self-employed contributors to continue contributing to the Scheme and enjoy the benefits,” Mr. Osafo-Maafo remarked.

The nine awardees were selected from thousands of active self-employed contributors across three categories:

Top Model SEED Contributors: Recognizing contributors with the longest streak of prompt payments.

Exceptional SEED Contributors: Celebrating individuals with the highest contribution payments in 2024.

Rising Star SEED Contributors: Honouring contributors who have maintained consistent contributions without default since 2023.

The initiative aims to celebrate excellence among contributors, motivate others in the informal sector to enrol, and reinforce the importance of pensions for self-employed workers.

“The awardees have played a crucial role in the success and growth of the SSNIT Scheme over the years,” Mr. Osafo-Maafo noted, urging others to follow their example.

The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude for the recognition. One of the recipients shared, “This award motivates us to keep contributing and sets an example for others to join the Scheme. We appreciate SSNIT’s efforts in supporting self-employed individuals.”

About SEED

Launched in Kumasi in May 2023, the Self-Employed Enrolment Drive (SEED) seeks to expand pension coverage to self-employed individuals and informal sector workers.

The initiative has seen remarkable growth, with enrolment rising from 13,000 at the time of launch to over 121,000 contributors today.

This success is attributed to the Scheme’s valuable benefits, including Old Age Pension, Invalidity Pension, and Survivors’ Lump Sum.

SSNIT continues to encourage more self-employed individuals to secure their future through active participation in the Scheme.
