The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has urged his supporters to remain vigilant and not become complacent, despite recent polls projecting a lead for him in the 2024 general elections.
Former President John Dramani Mahama’s remarks come in response to predictions by Fitch Solutions, a UK-based rating agency, and Global InfoAnalytics.
Fitch Solutions’ latest report forecasts that the NDC is likely to win the upcoming elections.
Similarly, a recent field poll by Global InfoAnalytics shows Mahama holding a significant lead over his closest rival, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
During his tour of the Northeast Region on Wednesday, October 2, Mahama pointed to these polls from respected institutions as indicators of the NDC’s strong position going into the election.
He, however, emphasized the importance of maintaining focus and vigilance throughout the electoral process to ensure victory.
Mahama accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of orchestrating fake polls to create a false narrative of victory for their presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia
“All the credible opinion polls have predicted that NDC is going to win the elections, and because of that NPP and the government have started publishing fake opinion polls, that have no methodology, opinion polls where you cannot find the people who did the research.
“And so, ignore all those fake opinion polls, everything indicates and every credible institution- Economy Intelligence Unit, Fitch Solutions, Global InfoAnyalitics, every proper, credible opinion poll shows that NDC is going to win the elections.
“Of course, we must not be complacent, we must protect every single person’s vote. All of us are going to be polling agents.”
According to Global InfoAnalytics, Mahama is ahead with 51.1% of the votes, positioning him favourably against Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate.
Fitch also predicts a victory for Mahama, citing persistently high challenges for the ruling NPP. However, Bawumia’s campaign team has dismissed the Global InfoAnalytics poll finding.
