Ghana and Japan have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening relations through human resource development for their mutual benefits.

A statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, copied to the Ghana News Agency on Wednesday, said the commitment was made during signing the Exchange of Notes for the “Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship” at the Ministry in Accra.

Mr Kwaku Ampratum-Sarpong, a Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration in-charge of Political and Economics Relations, signed on behalf of Ghana, while Mr Mochizuki Hisanobu, the Ambassador of Japan to Ghana, signed for his country.

Mr Ampratwum-Sarpong extended government’s appreciation to Japan for the continued support in enhancing Ghana’s human resource capacity.

He was hopeful that the knowledge-sharing opportunity would equip Ghanaian nationals enrolled on the programme with additional skills needed to contribute to the development of the economy.

Mr Mochizuki Hisanobu, the Ambassador of Japan to Ghana, said the objective of the project, which started in 2012, was to offer opportunities to highly capable young Ghanaian Government officials to pursue graduate studies in various fields.

That would help to actively accelerate the social and economic development of Ghana, he said, and  reiterated Japan’s commitment to contributing to Ghana’s human resource growth.

Approximately 117 students have so far benefited from the programme this year.
