The Supreme Court has for the third time adjourned three cases involving the embattled Member of Parliament for Assin North, James Gyakye Quayson.

This is despite assurances of an expeditious hearing by the apex court.

The Supreme Court has on two earlier occasions failed to hear the case seeking the Court to reconsider its order barring him from carrying himself out as a Member of Parliament.

The apex court, in a 5-2 majority decision on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, restrained the embattled MP from discharging his parliamentary duties amid claims it had a duty to protect the sanctity of the constitution.

“The application succeeds. The MP is restrained from holding himself as MP for Assin North and restrained from attending Parliament to conduct business on behalf of the people of Assin North. The restriction remains until the final determination of the substantive matter. We direct that the case hearing be expedited,“ the Court ruled.

In court on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, Justice Jones Dotse who was presiding announced the adjournment of the three cases involving the MP to June 14, 2022.

This is to allow an indisposed member of the panel ample time to recover.
