The two-time Member of Parliament for Tano South, Dr. Benjamin Yeboah Sekyere is going uncontested in the January 27 parliamentary primaries of the New Patriotic Party.
After 5 o’clock in the evening of December 25, 2023, the MP was the only aspirant who had submitted his nomination to contest.
Per the party’s regulations governing the conduct of the primaries, the last day for the submission of nomination papers is December 25, 2023.
Since he was the only person to have met this important requirement, it presupposes that he is going into the primaries unchallenged.
Dr. Benjamin Sekyere first breezed onto the political scene in 2015 when he won in the party’s parliamentary primaries.
He faced the ‘wrath’ of then incumbent MP and Deputy Agric Minister in charge of poultry and livestock, Dr. Louisa Hannah Bissiw whom he defeated in the main elections.
Hannah Bissiw who was the NDC’s National Women Organizer, in the 2020 elections, came up against Dr. Sekyere once again and lost to him again.
With the major road networks constructed, notably the Bechem-Techimantia-Akomadan highway, the constituents believe the MP has done more than enough to deserve another term in office.
It is, therefore, not strange that his party people have recognized the yeoman’s job the MP has done and have stepped aside for him to go uncontested.
