Miss Mercy Yeboah Ahen, the Techiman Municipal Registration Officer of the NIA explained the registration was in accordance with the NIA Act, 2006 (Act 707) that mandates the authority to do so.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Techiman, the regional capital, Ahen advised parents to follow the laid down procedures and provide the true information about their children for them to be registered.

The registration of minors must be handled responsibly, and parents are therefore reminded to adhere to all the guidelines such as providing the NIA with the true identity and information about them.

Ms Ahen said the Authority had deplored personnel visiting schools to undertake the registration exercise and called on school authorities and parents to cooperate with the registration officers.

The registration officials would require birth certificates and other relevant documents that show or confirm the identity of the children.

“We need the right and accurate information about the children to prevent cases of updating information about the children after the registration,” she stated.

Ms Ahen assured that the NIA would do everything possible to register the children and urged parents to remain calm.
